            Howard Kalos                                           Gary Kalos

We are proud to be your League Operators in Dade County and the greater Miami area. Our goal is to make the League an enjoyable experience for all of our members. We hope to create a fun and fair environment, where all levels of players from beginners to the highly skilled, compete on an even playing field. This is achieved through the use of “The Equalizer” handicap system, which all American Poolplayers Association leagues around the United States, Canada and Japan are required to use to rate their players. This system allows every player and team in every APA league to compete using the same handicapping criteria. It gives every team a fair chance to reach the National Team Championships in Las Vegas at the Riviera Hotel and Casino. It is the largest amateur team pool tournament in the world. The prize fund is well over a million dollars and keeps rising every year. Every team that qualifies for the National Team Championships is guaranteed prize money just for showing up and it rises with every round that is won by the participating team. We wish everyone the best of luck and have fun out there playing pool.

A little background information on your League Operators Howard Kalos and Gary Kalos.

Howard Kalos has been an APA member since 1992. When he ended his APA playing career in 2007, he was a skill level 7 in 8-ball and a skill level 9 in 9-ball. His team qualified and played in the National Team Championships in Las Vegas 4 times. The team didn’t win, but they had great time competing and enjoying the comradery of the other players from around the country. “Las Vegas is a great time win or lose!” He won the regional singles tournament once as a skill level 7 in 8-ball and competed in the National Singles Championships in St. Louis, Missouri, where they were being held at that time. The National Singles Championships are now held in Las Vegas at the Riviera Hotel and Casino. He qualified and competed in the U.S. Amateur Championships twice, which is held by the APA for all amateur players, including players who are not APA members. He also won the King of the Hill Invitational Tournament in Orlando, Florida, held by the League Operator in that area, twice for 9-ball. This is an invitational tournament for all of the Florida APA league areas. He also worked for Bill Hand the former League Operator in Dade County doing administrative duties for 12 years until 2004.

Gary Kalos has been an APA member since 1987. When he ended his APA playing career in 2007, he was also a skill level 7 in 8-ball. He competed in the National Team Championships in Las Vegas 2 times. Although his team didn’t win, it was a memorable experience for him. He has been the team captain of many teams over the years and a Division Representative several times in the area in which he played.

Combined, we have almost forty years of experience working and playing in the American Poolplayers Association pool league in this area. We hope to use our experience and knowledge to make the Dade APA and the American Poolplayers Association the premier pool league in Dade County.
